The year long project had the objective of surveying the potential for archaeobotanical sampling and reference collection building from three areas: Pampanga, the Cordillera, and Palawan. The project also had the objective of implementing a full scale excavation with the following objectives:

  1. Establish beyond doubt that the habitation site at Babo Balukbuk was a settlement, with the help of current excavation methodology, and an archaeobotanical data set.
  2. Establish and clarify the cultural periodization of previously known cultural deposits in the site.
  3. Improve the accuracy of the time depth estimate of the site.
  4. Apply and test a suite of current excavation methods.
  5. Establish if there are cultural deposits beyond the known cultural layers.
